The Upsell Accessories Addon Tab app allows Shopify merchants to showcase complementary products on each product page using tabbed accessory lists. This guide walks you through the complete setup and usage process—from installation to storefront display—so you can optimize your upsell and cross-sell strategy.
1. Installing and Setting Up the App
To begin, install the Upsell Accessories Addon Tab app from the Shopify App Store. Once the installation is complete, the app will be available in your Shopify Admin panel under the “Apps” section.
When prompted, approve the necessary permissions. The app requires access to your product catalog, product metafields, and theme settings in order to display accessory lists effectively.
2. Creating Accessory Lists for a Product
Accessory lists help you group related products under a specific tab on the product page. Each list can either be manually curated or automatically generated using rules.
Step 1: Select a Product
From the app dashboard, click on the product you want to manage. This will open the accessory list editor for that specific product.
Step 2: Add a New Accessory List
Click the “Add Accessory List” button. You’ll be prompted to enter a name for the list (e.g., “Batteries”, “Cases”, “Memory Cards”) and choose the list type:
- Curated List: Manually select products to include in the list.
- Rule-Based List: Automatically populate products based on filters such as tags, product types, or vendors.
3. Using Curated Accessory Lists
Curated lists give you complete control over which products appear in the tab.
- Select the “Curated” option when creating the list.
- Choose individual products from your catalog using the built-in product selector.
- Use the arrow buttons to reorder the items as they will appear on the storefront.
- Click “Save” to attach the curated list to the product.
Curated lists are ideal when you want to hand-pick accessories based on product compatibility or marketing preferences.
4. Using Rule-Based Accessory Lists
Rule-based lists allow the app to automatically select products that match your defined criteria.
- Select the “Rule-Based” option when creating a list.
- Define rules based on fields such as:
- Tag contains a keyword
- Vendor is equal to a specific brand
- Product type includes a category
- You can add multiple conditions to refine your list.
- Preview the matched products before saving.
Rule-based lists are useful for automation, especially for stores with large catalogs or frequently updated inventory.
5. Displaying Accessory Tabs on the Storefront
After creating accessory lists, you need to display them on the product pages using the app embed block.
Step 1: Enable the App Block
- Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize.
- Select the Product template.
- Click “Add Block” and choose “Accessory Tabs App Block.”
- Place it where you want it to appear on the product page and save the changes.
Step 2: Customize Display Settings
You can adjust visual settings such as showing or hiding tab headings and limiting how many lists appear based on your plan level.
6. Saving and Updating Accessory Lists
When you make changes in the accessory modal, be sure to click “Save.” The data is stored in the product’s metafields under the namespace accessories.lists
.
To edit an existing list:
- Click on the product in the app dashboard.
- Select the list tab you want to edit.
- You can change the title, reorder items, or switch between curated and rule-based modes.
- Click “Save” after making changes.
7. Deleting an Accessory List
To delete a list:
- Open the product in the app interface.
- Click the action menu on the tab.
- Choose “Delete” and confirm the deletion.
This will remove the accessory list from the product’s metafields and it will no longer be visible on the storefront.
8. Previewing Accessory Tabs
From within the app, click on any product to preview how accessory tabs will appear on the live site. You’ll be able to see your selected or rule-based products displayed using the currently active product card template.
9. Testing and Going Live
To ensure everything is functioning correctly:
- Visit a product page on your storefront that has accessory lists assigned.
- Check that the app embed block is enabled and the accessory tabs appear as expected.
- Verify that clicking on items opens the correct product pages and adds them to the cart properly.
